Seaway Global is recognized as Korea’s leading supplier of caustic soda 50% to the marine vessel, supporting global shipping companies in full compliance with IMO 2020 regulations.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) enforced the MARPOL 73/78 Convention in 2005 to prevent marine pollution from ships, setting limits on the sulfur content of marine fuels.

Under these regulations, vessels operating within Sulfur Emission Control Areas (SECA) have been required to use fuel with a sulfur content of no more than 1.0% since July 2010, and no more than 0.1% since 2015.

Furthermore, from 2020 onward, all vessels worldwide must use marine fuels with a sulfur content not exceeding 0.5%. In response to these regulations, the global shipping industry has invested significantly in emission-reduction solutions, including the installation of exhaust gas cleaning systems such as scrubbers and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems, as well as the adoption of low-sulfur fuels and LNG.

Leveraging facility and equipment investments aligned with IMO environmental regulations, Seaway Global has completed over 1,000 bunkering operations, supplying marine caustic soda to a wide range of vessel types, including container ships, car carriers, LNG carriers, and cruise vessels.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) enforced the Tier III NOx emission regulation effective January 1, 2016, requiring an over 80% reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emitted from marine diesel engines. To comply with this regulation, vessels must be equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.

SCR is an environmentally friendly technology that reduces NOx emissions by chemically reacting exhaust gases with a reductant over a catalyst, converting harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen(N₂) and water (H₂O) before release into the atmosphere.

Seaway Global (SWG) operates a dedicated supply system for Marine Urea 40% (AUS 40), used as a denitrification reagent for marine SCR systems, and provides products fully compliant with the ISO 18611 standard.

"Eco-Friendly and Safer Scrubber Solution"

Seaway Global supplies Magnesium Hydroxide(Mg(OH)₂)as an environmentally friendly desulfurization reagent for marine scrubber systems.
Compared to caustic soda (NaOH), magnesium hydroxide offers enhanced operational safety, reduced corrosiveness, and improved handling characteristics, making it a preferred alternative for selected vessel applications.

This product is utilized in scrubber systems to neutralize sulfur oxides (SOx) in exhaust gases, supporting compliance with IMO environmental regulations while minimizing risks to crew and equipment.

Currently, Seaway Global supplies Magnesium Hydroxide through domestic ports in Korea as well as the Port of Singapore, ensuring stable availability at key marine logistics hubs.
